GRAND OUTLET BALI SET TO TRANSFORM KURA KURA SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE INTO PREMIER SHOPPING AND ENTERTAINMENT HUB
Grand Outlet Bali: A Fusion of Luxury Shopping and Cultural Preservation in Serangan Village
In a major leap towards economic development and tourism enhancement, PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID) has inked a collaboration deal with Mitsubishi Estate to bring forth the Grand Outlet Bali, an expansive international shopping center poised to open its doors in 2024. This shopping extravaganza will be situated in the Kura Kura Special Economic Zone on Serangan Island, just off the coast of Denpasar.
The Grand Outlet Bali is slated to become a pinnacle of retail therapy, housing luxurious offerings from major international fashion brands. It is poised to rival renowned shopping destinations in the region, such as Bali Discovery Mall, Galeria Mall, and Beachwalk Kuta. With a vast expanse of 4.7 hectares and an investment of around USD 100 million, the project aims not only to cater to fashion enthusiasts but also to provide family entertainment, featuring recreational areas, beachfront promenades, and breathtaking views.
Zakki Hakim, the Head of Community Relations for PT Bali Turtle Island Development, revealed that the project draws inspiration from the concept of 'Desa Bhinneka' or 'Village for Diverse Communities.' The Grand Outlet Bali is envisioned not just as a shopping center but as a multifaceted destination appealing to domestic and international visitors, foodies, and families.
Addressing concerns about the impact on the local economy, Hakim stated that over 50% of the Grand Outlet Bali's workforce will be sourced from Serangan Village on Serangan Island. This strategic move aligns with the broader goals of the Kura Kura Special Economic Zone, aiming to bring economic growth to traditional fishing communities.
The development of this economic zone is part of a larger strategy to revitalize areas with significant economic potential. The Bali International Hospital stands as a testament to this approach in the Sanur Economic Zone, linking businesses to the health and tourism sectors.
With an estimated 1.2 million tourists and a potential income of USD 31.8 billion per year, the Kura Kura Special Economic Zone is poised to become a major tourism destination. The development is expected to create 35,000 new jobs, providing a boost to the local community.
Hakim emphasized that the project includes support programs for surrounding villages, particularly Serangan Village and Serangan Traditional Village. These programs aim to foster micro, small, and medium enterprises, ensuring that the community benefits from the economic surge without compromising its cultural and traditional identity.
Addressing concerns about the impact on local traditions, Hakim reassured that residents of Serangan Village would retain access to pray at all temples in the Kura Kura Bali area. The comprehensive approach of the Grand Outlet Bali project reflects a commitment to balanced and sustainable development, harmonizing economic growth with cultural preservation.
