KAMPUNG PELANGI: THE MOST INSTAGRAMMABLE AND COLORFUL VILLAGE IN SEMARANG
Kampung Pelangi is the most attractive tourism destination now.
As it was written in Indonesia Expat, when the government decided to fund Kampung Pelangi’s slum renovation in South Semarang as much as Rp 300 million (about US$29,000), it appears to be an excellent result to bring off a sustainable development goal in a creative way – offering an alternative solution to the local housing crisis.
It came as a surprise when the government decided to invest around US$29,000 in giving the Kampung Pelangi (Rainbow Village) in Randusari the slum transformation it deserves. Redeveloping the slum village was one of the government’s initiatives to bring more visitors to the town. When Slamet Widodo, a junior high school principal, came up with the idea to transform the area into a 'rainbow village', the government could not help but accept it.
After just one month of development, Kampung Pelangi was open to the public, and the project proved to be successful. It went from being a slum village, originally named Kampung Wonosari, to an iconic tourism spot.

There is even a unique ornament installed on the wall, which is a round-shaped mirror with shells on it. The following unique feature of the village perhaps is the wall with worm painting on it.
