Most team uniforms say “we are athletes.” This one also says “we are Indonesian,” and you can see it from across the room.
Look at the photo. A woman wears a grey-navy jacket with a batik sash tied at the waist. A man stands beside her in a batik-panelled jacket and a batik headband, one hand resting on a crutch. Both wear a small red-and-white flag pin. It looks like sportswear and formal wear at the same time.
The Asian Para Games 2026 uniform is the work of Indonesian designer Ivan Gunawan.
What Is the Asian Para Games 2026 Uniform?
Ivan Gunawan designed the official uniform for Indonesian athletes competing at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Nagoya, Japan, from October 18 to 24, 2026. The design is called “Sekar Jagat Vijaya.” It uses Batik Sekar Jagat in navy, grey, and red accents, and it mixes a sporty jacket with formal cuts inspired by traditional clothing. The price and production numbers have not been made public.

Why Does the Design Use Batik Sekar Jagat?
“Sekar” means flower and “jagat” means world. Sekar Jagat is often read as a “map of the world” made of flowers, which is a surprising idea for a motif that is centuries old. Each little shape in the pattern is different, but together they make one picture.
That is the point. Indonesia is a country of many islands, languages, and bodies. One pattern, many pieces.
“Vijaya” means victory. Together, the name means beauty in diversity, and winning.
What Does the Uniform Look Like?
The colors are calm and serious. Navy and grey carry most of the look, so the red accents stand out like a signature. Under stadium lights, that contrast should read clearly on camera and in the stands.
The cut does the real work. The women’s look has a fitted jacket and a wide batik waist sash, a nod to kebaya styling. The men’s look uses batik panels on the jacket and a batik headband. Neither looks like a costume. They look like clothes someone would actually want to wear.
What Did Ivan Gunawan Say About It?
According to Good News from Indonesia, Ivan Gunawan sees the uniform as more than clothing. In his words, translated from the post, it represents Indonesia’s identity, pride, and spirit.
For Paralympic athletes, he adds, victory also means the courage to keep moving forward and face challenges. That line gives the design its emotional weight.

Why Does This Uniform Matter?
Para athletes are often dressed as an afterthought. Here, the design gets the same care as any fashion project. It carries a national craft, batik, onto an international stage.
It is also made for sharing. The look is clean, colorful, and photographs well, which is how a uniform becomes a conversation instead of just a dress code.
