The Oki & Nirmala movie is a live-action film based on the classic picture story from Majalah Bobo. It is directed by Hanung Bramantyo, was set to start production in September 2026, and is targeted for release in Indonesian cinemas in 2027. Tissa Biani plays Nirmala and Azzamy Syauqi plays Oki. The exact release date and ticket price have not been announced.

What is the Oki & Nirmala movie?
Oki and Nirmala began as a picture story (cergam) in Majalah Bobo. The first story was published on 14 April 1973. Oki is a gnome in green who is quick, kind, and clumsy. Nirmala is a gentle forest fairy in a pink dress, with a flower crown and a magic wand.
Every story follows a simple pattern. Oki makes a mess, Nirmala helps, and both learn something. Oki’s character shows kids that a mistake does not make you a bad person, as long as you learn from it. The film takes that formula to Negeri Dongeng, the “Fairy Tale Land” where the stories happen.

Who plays Oki and Nirmala?
Tissa Biani is Nirmala. Azzamy Syauqi, only 11 years old, is Oki. The cast also includes Titi Kamal, Sheila Kusnadi, and Indra Birowo. Hanung Bramantyo, the director behind Ayat-Ayat Cinta, leads the project.
Here is the surprising part: Nirmala has been waiting for Tissa for years. In January 2022, Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment announced Tissa as Nirmala in a series planned for 2023, the story’s 50th anniversary. The project is now a film. That is about five years from first announcement to the big screen.
Why is everyone talking about it now?
If you are between 25 and 45, you probably grew up with this story. You remember the smell of newsprint and the crinkle of a magazine passed between classmates. Seeing Nirmala’s world in a cinema feels less like a new release and more like a door back to your own childhood.
