That's the promise of Konser Akbar Monas 2026, the annual flagship outdoor concert by Aula Simfonia Jakarta (ASJ), Indonesia's premier classical music institution. This year's edition returns on Saturday, 18 July 2026, starting at 18.30 WIB, at Lapangan Monas, Central Jakarta  completely free and open to the public, no registration needed.

What Is Konser Akbar Monas ?

Konser Akbar Monas is an annual free outdoor symphony concert organized by Aula Simfonia Jakarta, held at the grounds of Monumen Nasional (Monas) in Central Jakarta. It brings together the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra (JSO) and the Jakarta Oratorio Society (JOS) to perform classical repertoire for a mass public audience  often drawing tens of thousands of attendees.

The event is part of ASJ's broader mission: to take classical music beyond the concert hall and make it a shared cultural experience for all Indonesians, regardless of background or income.

Why Does Classical Music Belong Outside the Concert Hall?
Classical music has a perception problem. It's often seen as European, elite, and distant  something reserved for formal halls, evening gowns, and a specific kind of crowd.

But ASJ is challenging that assumption directly.

The institution argues that classical music, at its core, is a universal language. Through melody, harmony, and dynamics, it communicates joy, struggle, hope, and unity  without requiring the listener to know music theory or European history. You don't need a biography of Brahms to feel something when the strings swell.
