This online auction offers collectors a unique opportunity to acquire exceptional pieces, including works by Indonesian masters such as Lee Man Fong, I GAK Munarsih, Affandi, S. Sudjojono, and Ahmad Sadali.
Among the standout pieces is Lee Man Fong's "Peace" (1980), an oil painting depicting a flock of doves symbolizing peace, loyalty, and affection. The painting is rendered with Lee's characteristic Chinese brush technique, set against a brown background. Another notable work by Lee is "Two Spaniels" (1982), capturing the cheerful expressions of two spaniel dogs beneath a tree, a testament to the artist's ability to convey the playful and affectionate nature of these animals.
In "The Spinner," Lee Man Fong portrays a Balinese woman engrossed in her weaving, reflecting a moment of rural life. The painting exudes a serene atmosphere, embodying the Chinese principle of "Chi Yun Sheng Tung"—breath, resonance, life, and movement.
Basoeki Abdullah's Legacy
Basoeki Abdullah's legacy as the "Painter of Kings" is evident in his many illustrious works. His painting "Royal Poinciana Tree" showcases a vibrant flamboyant tree with red blossoms, a symbol of beauty and strength. Abdullah's depiction of the lush landscape, complete with a river and a bridge with children and women, captures a moment of tranquility and natural beauty.
Another masterpiece, "Landscape Mountain," displays Abdullah's skill in capturing the grandeur of nature, with a majestic mountain view painted in rich, naturalistic detail.
Srihadi Soedarsono and S. Sudjojono: Modern Masters
The auction also features works by other prominent Indonesian artists. Srihadi Soedarsono's "Mount Merapi-Vibration of Life" (2008) portrays the iconic volcano spewing hot lava against a moonlit night sky, a striking blend of color and emotion. His "Borobudur - Moment of Contemplation" (2008) depicts the famous Buddhist temple under a purple sky, a serene reflection on the spiritual and cultural heritage of Indonesia.
S. Sudjojono, another modern master, is celebrated for his realism and profound portrayals of Indonesian life. His work "Orchid and an Angel" (1985) features a vibrant arrangement of red and white orchids, symbolizing strength, love, and innocence. The addition of an angel in the painting adds a decorative and philosophical layer to the artwork.
The Avant-Garde Affandi
