Jalan Pulang ("The Way Home") is a short film released by Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation on July 24, 2026, timed to Hari Kebaya Nasional (National Kebaya Day). Directed by Bramsky, it stars Sheila Dara Aisha as Dara, a Jakarta creative director hired to rebrand a legendary kebaya house owned by the fictional Madame Yati, played by Asri Welas. The film premiered at Cinema XXI Plaza Indonesia on July 22, 2026, and is now streaming free on YouTube via the Indonesia Kaya channel.

What Is Jalan Pulang About?

Dara, the creative director Sheila Dara Aisha plays, walks into her new job full of modern ideas for updating Madame Yati's kebaya business. Every pitch gets turned down. Frustrated, she heads back to her mother's house and while sorting through kebaya set aside for donation, she starts uncovering family memories stitched into the fabric itself. It's less a fashion story and more a story about what gets passed down without anyone announcing it.

This is the foundation's third kebaya-themed short film, following Kebaya Kala Kini (2024) and #KitaBerkebaya (2025). Those two leaned into visuals and the preservation movement. Jalan Pulang goes personal instead, built around a mother-daughter relationship rather than a campaign message.

Why Is Sheila Dara Aisha's Casting a Big Deal?
Sheila Dara Aisha isn't a random pick. She won the Piala Citra at the 2025 Festival Film Indonesia for Best Actress, for her role as Sore in Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan. Putting an FFI-winning actress in a branded short film signals this isn't a throwaway corporate video  it's being treated as an actual piece of filmmaking, with costume direction handled by concept and wardrobe lead Hagai Pakan.

"There's a memory folded into every layer of that fabric  a home, a mother, a family, an identity we usually only notice once we've gone looking for it again," said director Bramsky at the film's press conference.

Why This Matters Beyond One Film
Djarum Foundation isn't just making pretty content. Program Director Renitasari Adrian said the shift toward a personal, family-centered story came directly from audience response to the first two films  people kept saying every kebaya they own has its own backstory. That's a quiet but telling data point about how younger Indonesians are relating to traditional dress: not as costume, but as inherited memory.
