PINTU Residency 2026 Takes Lombok Weaving and Mojokerto Batik to Paris
Four designers, four months, two Indonesian towns. Now their collections are in front of international buyers.

Four designers left their studios in April 2026 and went to live where the cloth is made. By October, the results were on show in Paris.

That is the short story of PINTU Residency 2026. It is also a rare case of fashion starting with the place, not the runway.

Definition: PINTU Residency 2026 is a program of PINTU Incubator, the Indonesian French Fashion Incubator. It paired Indonesian and French designers to create shared collections with artisans in Lombok and Mojokerto. Four designers took part

from April to July 2026. Their two collections, GARUDA and AU LARGE, were shown to international buyers at Première Classe Paris from 2 to 5 October 2026. No ticket price was announced.

At a glance

  • 4 months: April to July 2026 of residency in Indonesia
  • 2 collections: GARUDA and AU LARGE
  • 21 looks: 10 in GARUDA, 11 in AU LARGE
  • 4 days: 2–5 October 2026 at Première Classe Paris

What is PINTU Residency 2026?

It is a “creative pairing” program. In 2025, PINTU brought French designers to work with Indonesian artisans. This year it went a step further and put Indonesian and French designers together.

The designers did not just learn textile techniques. They lived close to where those skills grow and worked with artisan communities. The curators were Thresia Mareta, Pascaline Wilhelm and Carol Meyer.

Who made the collections?

Beatrice Angelica and Gabriel Marcella came from Indonesia. Mickaël Nana and Lisa Rayar came from France. Each Indonesian designer worked with a French partner in a different place.

Thresia Mareta, Co-Initiator of PINTU Incubator and Founder of LAKON Indonesia, says the goal is to push designers outside what they already know:

“When Indonesian and French designers work together, they bring different views and experiences. From that, they can look again at materials, skills, even cultures that felt familiar, from a new angle.”

What is the GARUDA collection?

GARUDA was made in Lombok by Beatrice Angelica and Mickaël Nana. It has 10 ready-to-wear looks for women and men.

The inspiration is Indonesian photo archives from the late 19th to early 20th century. The designers mixed Lombok’s Tenun and Songket weaving with Western tailoring. Local women artisans helped them develop custom textiles using traditional techniques.

What is the AU LARGE collection?

AU LARGE was made in Mojokerto by Gabriel Marcella and Lisa Rayar. It has 11 looks about two sea cultures, Indonesian and French.

French sailor clothing meets life on the North Java coast and the Sedekah Laut tradition, a ritual offering to the sea. The surprising part is the print. The pair created a motif that blends the checked pattern of an Indonesian sarong with the signature lines of French maritime wear. Two everyday patterns from opposite sides of the world become one.

Why take young designers to Paris?

Selling is only half the point. Soegianto Nagaria, Chairman of JF3 and Co-Initiator of PINTU Incubator, says participants need to understand how fashion works in other countries.

That is why the 2026 Incubees also joined Focus Week Paris. It included workshops at a fashion school and visits to creative and cultural institutions. The idea is to give designers a closer look at French education, industry and craftsmanship.

PINTU is also building a longer-term base. In 2026 it set up Yayasan PINTU Incubator Indonesia. It now runs three programs: PINTU Incubator, PINTU Accelerator and PINTU Residency.
