A TRIBUTE TO KARL LAGERFELD: THE BLACK AND WHITE TREND TAKES OVER AT THE 2023 MET GALA
Celebrities embrace the life and work of Karl Lagerfeld at the 2023 Met Gala.
Each spring, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City hosts a highly anticipated charity event known as the Met Gala, also referred to as the Costume Institute Benefit or the Met Ball.
This star-studded event never fails to captivate audiences with its glamorous display of celebrity fashion.
The Met Gala, frequently referred to as the "Oscars of fashion," attracts the most prominent A-list celebrities who dress according to a designated theme, often in custom-made designs from the world's most influential fashion houses.
This year's theme was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," a tribute to the legendary fashion designer who passed away in 2019.
In past years, guests have embraced themes such as "punk," "camp," and "heavenly bodies," while some events have celebrated the work of specific designers, including Alexander McQueen and Rei Kawakubo.
A number of high-profile celebrities arrived at the event dressed in their most unique and striking outfits. However, there was a noticeable trend among the attendees, as many of them chose to wear clothes with black and white nuances, a nod to Lagerfeld's signature style.
"This year's Met Gala dress code honors Karl Lagerfeld. Guests certainly understand the task. They reference many of the signs that have characterized Lagerfeld over a career spanning more than six decades," said Alison Cohn, fashion editor for Harper's Bazaar, according to Live Mint.
Some of the stars who embraced the black and white dress code included Kristen Stewart, who opted for a boyish black and white suit, and Emily Blunt, who looked stunning in a brocade dress with a white top adorned with a large black bow.
BLACKPINK member Jennie also dazzled in a short white Chanel dress with a black ribbon at the waist, complemented with plain black gloves and a necklace.
Even Rami Malek and Dua Lipa were not exempt from the trend, as they also rocked black and white ensembles.
The use of black and white clothing is considered to be one of Lagerfeld's trademarks, which is why many of the celebrities chose to don this color combination in his honor.
"Throughout his career in the fashion world, Lagerfeld is known as a big fan of black and white color combinations," explained Cohn.
It was a fitting tribute to the iconic designer, who left an indelible mark on the world of fashion.
