Daniel Ricciardo will officially replace Nyck de Vries at Scuderia AlphaTauri starting from the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Hungaroring Circuit in Budapest on July 21-23, 2023. This marks Ricciardo's comeback after being on hiatus earlier this year.

De Vries joined AlphaTauri at the beginning of the season as a rookie. However, his performance has not yielded impressive results. His best finish was only 12th place in the Monaco GP. He has faced sharp criticism from Red Bull Advisor, Dr. Helmut Marko.

Rumors circulated regarding Ricciardo's departure after being released by the McLaren F1 Team earlier than expected. He then received an offer from Oracle Red Bull Racing as a reserve driver.

During this time, Ricciardo underwent several tests and simulations in Milton Keynes, England, as well as Pirelli tests in Silverstone on July 10, 2023. His lap times were considered fast enough to start from the front row in the British GP.

A day after the tests, on July 11, 2023, AlphaTauri officially parted ways with De Vries and appointed Ricciardo as his replacement for the rest of the season. The Australian driver will partner with Yuki Tsunoda.

De Vries' departure from AlphaTauri had been rumored since the Austrian GP earlier this month. However, Red Bull and AlphaTauri continued to deny the rumors, despite Marko consistently criticizing the Dutch-Indonesian driver.

Ricciardo's return to AlphaTauri holds significance as he had previously raced for the team when it was known as Scuderia Toro Rosso. He later moved to Red Bull Racing in 2014 as a replacement for Mark Webber.

AlphaTauri Team Principal, Franz Tost, expressed his delight in welcoming Ricciardo back to the team. Tost praised Ricciardo's driving skills and familiarity with the team. He believes that Ricciardo's experience, having won F1 eight times, will greatly benefit the team.

Prior to rejoining the Red Bull camp, Ricciardo had stints with Renault F1 Team and McLaren F1 Team. His latest victory was at the Italian GP in 2021 with McLaren.
