Seventy-two minutes. That's all it took for Aldila Sutjiadi to hand Indonesia its latest reason to check the tennis scores at 3 a.m. WIB.

On Saturday, August 1, 2026 (Sunday morning, August 2 in Jakarta), Aldila Sutjiadi and her New Zealand partner Erin Routliffe beat Andreja Klepac of Slovenia and Makoto Ninomiya of Japan 6-4, 6-1 in the doubles final of the Mubadala Citi DC Open  widely known as the Washington Open  in Washington, D.C. It's a WTA 500-level tournament, one tier below the biggest events on tour, and it's exactly the kind of title that quietly builds a career rather than making global headlines.

At a glance

  • Final score: 6-4, 6-1
  • Match duration: 1 hour, 12 minutes
  • Aldila's career doubles titles: 8
  • Break points converted: 4 of 6 (Aldila/Routliffe) vs. 1 of 3 (Klepac/Ninomiya)

Aldila Sutjiadi, 31, is a professional doubles specialist from Indonesia who paired with Erin Routliffe  seeded second at this tournament  to win on the hard courts of the U.S. capital. The win is Aldila's second WTA title of 2026, following an earlier trophy at the Bad Homburg Open in late June, and it comes just weeks before the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year.

How Did Aldila Sutjiadi and Erin Routliffe Win the Final?

The pair broke serve in the opening game of the match and never really let go of the wheel. Klepac and Ninomiya clawed the first set back to 4-4, but Aldila and Routliffe broke again in the ninth game and closed it out 6-4.

The second set wasn't close. Three more service breaks pushed the Indonesian-New Zealand pairing to a 5-1 lead, and they sealed the match 6-1. Across the full match, they landed two aces, won 69 percent of first-serve points, and converted four of six break-point chances  a stat line that explains why the match lasted barely over an hour.

Aldila later told Indonesian news agency Antara that she'd gone in wary of Klepac's pedigree, pointing out that the Slovenian had once ranked inside the world's top ten in doubles  a detail that made the lopsided scoreline more impressive, not less.

That's the surprising bit most casual fans miss: doubles pairings that have barely played together often struggle with chemistry. Aldila and Routliffe had only teamed up a handful of times, yet moved like a pair who'd shared a locker room for years  sharp poaches at net, no hesitation calling the ball out loud across the baseline.

For Routliffe, this was her first title since the 2025 US Open and her 13th career doubles trophy. For Aldila, it's her eighth. And it's the second time the two have won together specifically  their first came at the ATX Open in Austin back in 2023.
